In 2020, Uganda Railways Corporation signed a contract with M/s IMATHIA CONSTRUCCION on to construct concrete sleeper railway line from Kampala – Mukono. This construction is poised to improved railway transport, especially for passengers from Kampala to Mukono.
Physical works commenced in April 2023 with removing the old steel sleeper line from Kampala Mukono. The project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase from Kampala – Namanve and the second from Namanve to Mukono.
The project will achieve a more stable track that supports increased train operating speeds, passenger comfort, efficient and effective freight and passenger transportation services offered by URC.
